Many Thanks for Your Support.jpg

The generous support of our members and friends enables the Ecorse Historical Society (EHS) to operate full range of programs and activities.

As a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization, the EHS welcomes and encourages donations of the following types:

Monetary Donations

All monetary donations, large or small, are welcome.  Tax receipts will be issued for all donations over $10.00.  Please contact the EHS office to arrange your gift by calling (313) 386-2520 Ext. 4, by postal service by mailing your donation to:

Ecorse Historical Society

Albert B. Buday Civic Center

3869 W Jefferson Ave.

Ecorse, MI  48229

or make an online donation using PayPal, Mastercard, or Visa.

Gifts-in-Kind/In-Kind Donations

Gifts-in-Kind (Items such as historical artifacts, books, photos, etc.) as well as goods and services are accepted with the understanding that their ownership is transferred to the EHS and that we reserve the right to determine the retention and disposition of all such gifts.

Typically, donated items will be appraised and a tax receipt will be issued in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)regulations and guidelines, and EHS policies and procedures.

Please contact the EHS office to discuss your donation of a gift-in-kind.

Planned Giving

Planned giving allows donors to make sure that their support will continue in perpetuity after they are no longer able to contribute personally.  Some options for planned giving are:

Bequest: A gift through your Will could be for a specific amount or a percentage of what is left after you have provided for your loved ones.  It could also be property, stocks and bonds, or other non-cash assets.  A bequest also has tax benefits for your estate.

Outright Gift: Most outright gifts are made in cash, but as with bequests anything of value may be given.  For non-cash assets, however, we ask that you first check with the EHS office to ensure that the planned gift meets our acceptance criteria.

Life Insurance: Life insurance policies are an excellent way to make a substantial gift by naming the EHS as a beneficiary. If you are still making payments on an existing policy or if you purchase a new policy for this purpose you can arrange to receive a charitable tax receipt for the premiums you pay.

If you already have a relationship with a professional, like a financial planner, lawyer, accountant or insurance agent, you can talk to him or her about planning a gift.  They can tell you about the tax benefits of a gift and can offer some creative ideas about planning gifts that will meet your personal and charitable objectives. If you do not have an advisor and need assistance, ask the EHS office for a "Leave a Legacy Ecorse" brochure which will provide helpful suggestions and a list of local organizations that can refer you to the appropriate professional.

Whether you are preparing a Will or writing a check, please make sure the EHS's (Ecorse Historical Society) name and address are shown correctly.  This is especially important with bequests, as any ambiguity in a Will can lead to your intentions being disregarded.

Please call the EHS office to discuss your planned giving.
